Intelligence and the Hands
The study of the mechanical development of movement is considered to be a very important because it is a complicated machines, each part of which is of great value .That is why the movement of small children has been studied with great attention and as nothing is hidden, but all is manifested outwardly,it can be very clearly followed.
Development of Movement in Animals
Another thing which stands out is that the development of walking and equilibrium is so fixed in all men that one might call it biological fact.we might say that after birth man will win walk and all men will do exactly the same thing with their feet, but we do not know what the individual man will do his hands.we do not know what particular activity of the hands is possible or has been possible in the past ;their function is not fixed .So the type of movement have a different meaning when considering hands or feet.it is certain that the function of the feet is biological ,yet it connected with an inner development in the brain .’
At the same time only man walks on two limbs ,all mammals walk on four .Once a man achieves the art of walking on two legs he continues to walk on legs only to keep the difficult state of erect equilibrium is difficult to attain. In the Montessori Children’s House, the child experiences hands-on learning opportunities through practical life activities from folding cloths and pouring water to polishing silver and tying bows. The sensorial materials also offer endless opportunities for concrete exploration and internalization of all visual and dimensional aspects needed to set a solid foundation for a mathematical mind.
Think pink tower and geometric cabinet. Additionally, activities such as touch boards, sound cylinders, and baric tablets allow for refinement of the senses through the work of the hand. Language and Mathematics are both introduced with multi-sensory materials such as sandpaper letters and decimal golden beads. The self-guided learning and freedom for repetition with the materials separates Montessori from traditional learning centers and creates the optimal experience for natural development in young children.

>In all animals ,the four limbs develop in movement together, but in man the one pair of limbs develop differently from the other pair. This clearly shows that their funcation is different. The funcation of the legs is quite different from the function of the arms.
The importance of the hand is at the heart of Montessori education. The use of hands helps the child construct himself. Dr. Maria Montessori felt strongly that the hand and brain must develop in harmony. The hand reports to the brain; the brain guides the hand; the cycle continues, resulting in the development of the intellect.More than a century later, neuroscience is filled with evidence of the strong connection between the hand and the brain.
“The studies which have been made of early infancy leave no room for doubt: the first two years are important for ever, because in that period, one passes from being nothing into being something.” (San Remo Lectures, 1949)”Others, as a result of careful study, have come to the conclusion that the first two years are the most important in the whole span of human life.” (The Absorbent Mind, p. 4)
“There are many who hold, as I do, that the most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement, is being formed. But not only his intelligence; the full totality of his psychic powers.” (The Absorbent Mind, p. 21)
“The greatness of the human personality begins at the hour of birth.” (The Absorbent Mind, p. 4)
