First period of growth
the first period of growth plane extends from birth to around six years of age.During this period,Montessori observed that the child undergoes striking physical and psychological development .The first period child is seen as a concrete, sensorial explorer and learner engaged in the development work psychological self-construction and building functional independence.
Maria Montessori divided these developmental stages into three main stages. She called the first of these stages ‘The Construction of Individuality’ or the Absorbent Mind Stage. Then, from three to around six-years-old, children pass into a more conscious stage of development.
Sensitive periods open a window of opportunity where experiences have a greater impact on certain areas of brain development. During sensitive periods, the brain is most likely to strengthen important connections and eliminate unneeded ones in a specific part of the brain.
Montessori introduced several concepts to explain the work of a child at this age, including The obsorbent mind ,sensitive periods ,and normalization.
